Over the summer, Opus People Solutions' Qualified Social Work Team led an initiative to donate parcels containing food and essentials to families in Walsall who may be experiencing hardship.
Working in collaboration with colleagues from the wider Vertas Group, the team collected donations of food and toiletries, including pasta, rice, sauces, tinned vegetables, biscuits, and personal care items.
In total the team collected enough items to donate over 100 parcels to Walsall’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programmes and Family Hubs to help local families access the food and support they need.
The distribution took place on Tuesday, 19 August, with the North Family Hub in Blakenall receiving the first delivery. Parcels were subsequently delivered to all four of Walsall Council’s Family Hubs, ensuring widespread reach across the borough.
During the visits, Opus’ team had the opportunity to hear directly from families and staff about how the donations would make a meaningful difference in their lives.
Councillor Mark Statham, Portfolio Holder for Children, Families and Lifelong Learning at Walsall Council said: “It’s fantastic to see such generosity and community spirit in action. These food parcels will make a real difference to families across Walsall this summer. I’d like to thank Opus People Solutions, the Vertas Group and all those who contributed to this initiative. Their support helps ensure that children and families accessing our Family Hubs and Holiday Activities and Food programmes have the essentials they need during the school holidays.”
James Carr, Head of Social Work recruitment, Opus People Solutions said: “As a Managed Service Provider for Walsall Council through the WMTemps framework, Opus People Solutions is committed to adding value wherever we can. With many families currently facing challenges, we hope the meal parcels we’ve donated to Walsall’s HAF Programme and Family Hubs help ease some of the pressure and make a small but positive difference to the families who receive them.”
