Opus People Solutions is excited to announce the launch of a new platform that will provide additional training opportunities for temporary workers.
Converse, an e-learning platform providing online training modules in areas such as Decision Making, Understanding Others and Self-Motivation, will help Opus to expand its workforce training initiatives by providing accessible, comprehensive, and flexible learning opportunities.
This initiative was initially launched to temporary workers within Milton Keynes City Council before continuing to go live with all councils we work with over the coming months.
After rolling out to our direct temporary workers, we also hope to extend access to these courses to our wider pool of talent, including individuals working through our supplier agencies and those we engage through social value activities, such as care leavers and candidates seeking jobs through external employment organisations.
Opus has successfully utilised Converse as our internal employee training platform for the past two years, benefiting from the ease with which employees can access additional learning opportunities to enhance their knowledge and understanding of key skills and workplace topics. By extending the use of this platform to our temporary workers, we aim to provide further opportunities for skills development and assist candidates in improving their applications for permanent positions.
Selena Ayling, Director of Operations at Opus People Solutions, says:
"The rollout of the Converse training platform for our temporary workers is an exciting milestone for us. It's a key part of our commitment to help councils build sustainable workforces. Many temporary roles are created to support operations while a permanent employee is being found. By offering opportunities for our candidates to develop essential skills, especially soft skills, we hope to help more workers transition into permanent positions, support councils with stable recruitment, and open up new career opportunities."
Julie Clark, Chief People Officer at Milton Keynes City Council says:
We’re delighted to collaborate with Opus on the launch of the Converse training platform. It's important for our workforce to develop essential interpersonal and adaptive skills like communication and emotional intelligence, to meet the ever-evolving needs of our communities. As a council committed to developing local talent, we’re excited to work with Opus to attract new candidates to local government and provide resources to upskill temporary employees, helping us develop a more resilient and adaptable workforce that can meet the needs of tomorrow.
The launch of Converse for temporary workers is part of a wider effort from Opus to raise awareness about career pathways in local government and prepare candidates for tomorrow's workforce. Future Forward is a culmination of Opus’ work from the past year to aiming to help build a sustainable future workforce for local government. The campaign aims to provide resources and advice for candidates learning to navigate the evolving job landscape while showcasing the diverse career opportunities available in local government.
Over the past year, Opus has focused on this initiative, engaging in a variety of outreach activities, including presentations in local schools, collaborating with colleges and universities, and connecting with local employment organisations to share career stories from public sector employees.
Selena adds:
"I'm really excited for all the hard work we have been doing over the past year to promote public sector career pathways and support local people into local jobs to be brought together with the launch of the Future Forward campaign. We're in a rapidly changing work environment where the skills that matter are evolving too. Through this campaign, we aim to help the next generation of workers to develop essential soft skills that will help them stand out in the job market and ultimately assist our councils in meeting the needs of their communities in the future."
