Position: Lead Accountant

Pay Rate: £24.08 - £26.70 per hour

About the Role:

Join us as a Lead Accountant at the forefront of financial leadership, shaping robust financial management for Walsall's local council. In this dynamic hybrid role, you'll lead a dedicated team and contribute to strategic financial initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership: Lead a proactive and independent team, supporting directorates. Deputize for senior finance managers and ensure effective resource planning.
• Financial Support: Provide quality financial support for service accounting, liaising with Executive Directors, Portfolio Holders, and key stakeholders. Promote and embed financial practices, regulations, and standards.
• Risk Management: Identify and manage financial risks across supported directorates. Provide proactive risk management and robust financial appraisal for decision-making.
• Final Accounts and Budgeting: Oversee final accounts and support overall services budgets. Manage income, contribute to project management, and identify innovation opportunities.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Independently liaise with auditors, government departments, and partner agencies. Ensure clear communication of project work and financial implications to stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Experience in lead accounting within the public sector.
• Expertise in financial consolidation.
• Proven ability in managing staff, resources, or processes.
• Experience in management accounting and budget-setting techniques.
