Job description
Housing Allocations Officers required for immediate 2-month contract!
Opus People Solutions are looking for Housing Allocations Officers to join the Housing Allocations Service at Milton Keynes City Council. This exciting role is purely office based and you will be assisting to clear the backlog of applications.
Your role will include:
- Maintaining the Housing Register in accordance Council policies, procedures, and targets
- Undertaking assessments of applications to determine eligibility and qualification for the register
- Managing the rejection of applicants that do not qualify
- Allocating social and affordable rented housing in accordance with Council policies, procedures, and targets.
- Effectively and proficiently managing the allocation processes, undertaking suitability reviews, assessments, and affordability checks, preparing accurate offers, refusals and withdrawal letters and documentation
- Monitoring progress to secure allocation and housing revenue. To undertake investigations into personal circumstances, where appropriate, having regard to the Council's duties under the Data Protection Act.
Key skills:
- Strong knowledge and practical application of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) Part 6: allocation of housing accommodation and Part 7: Homelessness, the Children Act 1989 and relevant regulations and legislation
- Strong communication skills
- Good IT skills
- Able to effectively manage a varied caseload and plan and prioritise work ensuring targets and deadlines are delivered.
- Able to identify issues and develop future operational plans
- Ability to deliver information clearly and succinctly to others in the council, partnerships, external organisations, and customers.
