The successful candidate will also support basic library operations and hold key holder responsibilities, ensuring the premises are secure and ready for daily use.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work, values community service, and enjoys contributing to a well-organised and friendly public space.
Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all areas of the library are clean and well-maintained, including public spaces, staff areas, restrooms, and entrances.
  • Open and/or close the library as required, following security procedures and ensuring the building is safe and secure.
  • Assist patrons with locating and borrowing library materials such as books, magazines, and digital resources.
  • Provide friendly and helpful customer service, responding to inquiries and resolving minor issues.
  • Maintain the organisation of library materials, ensuring shelves are tidy and items are correctly categorised.
  • Support library events and programs by helping with setup, materials preparation, and general assistance.
  • Conduct routine checks of library equipment and report any maintenance needs.
  • Promote library services and resources through positive interactions with visitors.
  • Perform basic administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and inventory support.

Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience in a cleaning or facilities role is desirable.
  • Experience in customer service or working in a public-facing role is highly valued.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • A valid driving licence is advantageous for outreach or transport-related duties.
  • Familiarity with library systems or information management is a plus; training will be provided.
  • Trustworthy and responsible, with the ability to manage key holder duties reliably.
  • A genuine interest in literature, learning, and community engagement.

If you are passionate about maintaining a welcoming space and supporting your local community, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding position.
