Job description
Job Title: Benefits Officer
Pay Rate: Negotiable
Location: Rugby Borough Council
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Work Mode: Hybrid (2 days in the office)
Assignment Duration: 3 months temporary
Responsibilities:
Interview and assess financial needs, providing tailored advice on benefits entitlement.
Assess claims for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction, adhering to legislation and council policies.
Resolve client queries related to benefits claims.
Conduct in-claim reviews to ensure accuracy and timely awards.
Review decisions based on new client information.
Refer suspected irregular claims to the Single Fraud Investigation Service and manage outcomes.
Requirements:
Thorough understanding of legislation governing Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, and Discretionary Financial Support schemes, including Homeless Prevention Grants.
Previous experience in assessing claims for Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Reduction.
Strong communication skills across diverse demographics and communication channels.
Experience with Civica OpenRevs is essential.
