About the Role
Are you passionate about supporting vulnerable children and making a real difference in their lives? We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Attendance Officer to join Walsall's School Attendance Support Service, working within our Prevention and Reintegration team.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work in partnership with schools, families, and a wide range of professionals to ensure that children and young people receive their full educational entitlement and achieve the best possible outcomes.
You will play a crucial role in supporting children who are vulnerable to poor attendance or disengagement from education. Your work will help ensure that no child misses out on the opportunity to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
· Work closely with schools across Walsall to challenge and support them in meeting their statutory responsibilities, particularly in relation to attendance, elective home education, permanent exclusions, and children missing from education.
· Champion the educational needs of vulnerable children, ensuring they access quality education and support to reach their full potential.
· Collaborate directly with children, families, and schools across a range of settings to develop tailored support and intervention strategies.
· Ensure that alternative provision is appropriate, meets statutory requirements, and supports the aspirations of pupils who are disengaged from mainstream education.
· Maintain and manage a caseload, ensuring accurate and timely records in line with service policies.
· Carry out home visits and make informed judgments about visit frequency based on the child's needs.
· Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings, including Child in Need, Early Help, and assessment meetings.
· Be mindful of SEND legislation and the Code of Practice in all areas of your work.
About You
We're looking for someone who brings:
· A solid understanding of safeguarding practices and relevant legislation relating to Elective Home Education, Exclusions, CME, EBSA, SEND, and school attendance.
· Experience working with children, young people, and families-particularly in education, health, or social care settings.
· Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with families, schools, and partner agencies.
· The confidence and creativity to deliver flexible, responsive support tailored to individual needs.
· Excellent report writing and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied and busy caseload.
· Proficiency in IT systems for maintaining accurate records and analysing data to inform decision-making.
· Experience of working as part of a team and contributing to service development.
· The ability to provide advice and support verbally in clear and accurate spoken English is essential.
