Back to Blogs

Have you ever considered how a temporary job can lead to permanent career opportunities?

Amanda's career in local government began with a six-week temporary position in an administrative role, which soon became permanent. Fast forward 15 years, and Amanda is now a Waste Operations Manager with the same team, overseeing multiple operational teams.

In our conversation, Amanda described a typical day in her role, which includes troubleshooting issues, distributing communications, and liaising with team members across the county to ensure waste collection runs smoothly. She also shared her journey into this role and the support received from the council, including the opportunity to complete a degree in Waste Management.

We also discussed some of the lesser-known aspects of her role and the Waste Department, including initiatives aimed at raising community awareness about recycling, such as school engagement projects and "Waste Amnesty Days” to educate the community about waste management and invest in local areas.
