Job description
We are looking for a dedicated Shift Maintenance Engineer to join our production team. This key role ensures that our operations run smoothly 24/7. The ideal candidate will handle engineering maintenance and process challenges during shifts, assist with new equipment installations, and contribute to ongoing improvement efforts. This position offers a competitive salary and follows a rotating shift pattern (early, late, and night shifts-no weekends).
Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary contact for operators when equipment issues arise during shifts.
- Support production shift team leaders by promptly addressing engineering needs.
- Perform daily planned preventative maintenance and contribute to the development and use of the site's computer engineering maintenance management system.
- Conduct unplanned maintenance and repairs to maximize production uptime.
- Engage in fault-finding to identify root causes rather than just addressing symptoms.
- Assist in installing and commissioning new manufacturing equipment.
- Identify and implement improvements to equipment and processes.
- Build strong working relationships across departments.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
- Provide training and mentoring to production operatives and apprentices.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Formal apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications in electrical, mechanical, and/or maintenance engineering.
- Experience in maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
- 18th Edition qualification is desirable, or competence with single-phase supplies and equipment.
- Familiarity with three-phase systems, motor starters, control panels, and motors.
- Experience with variable speed drives is an advantage.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Understanding of bearings and drive transmission systems.
- Ability to disassemble and reassemble machinery and equipment components.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to independently resolve complex technical issues.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with polymer processing technology is an advantage.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and experience with computer maintenance management systems (Pirana preferred).
