Job description

Opus People Solutions on behalf of Cambridgeshire County Council are looking for a post Box Co-ordinator to join Regional Adoption Agency.

This is a full time position, 37.5 hours per week. Hybrid working pattern- at least 2 days per week in the office in Sand Martin House, Peterborugh, PE2 8TY.

Placement initially 3 months, however, might be extended for a successful candidate- subject to performance.

Main accountabilities:

  • To facilitate and coordinate exchanges of information for the child between their birth family and their adopted family, to enable the child to feel accepted within their new family whilst enabling them to develop positive self-esteem and identity as an adopted person.

  • To provide support and advice to both adopters and birth family members about contact, as needed to enable a sensitive, responsive and confidential approach.

  • To work closely with partner agencies particularly Children's social care to enable the mooth smooth running of the service and to offer advice and guidance about proposed contact arrangements.

  • To ensure that contact, referrals and contact agreements are processed in a timely way and in agreed timescales.

  • To support Adopters and birth family members to help them understand the purpose of the service, including meeting with them if required.
  • To keep a record of all exchanges in paper format or on Liquid Logic as required.

  • To assess all incoming post and use your judgement on the suitability of letters for forwarding and liaise with the letter writer to ensure the suitability of the letter.

  • To meet with birth parents who need additional support to write letters to their children.

  • To coordinate and facilitate face to face contacts between adopted children and birth family members where approriate.
  • Attendance at team meetings when required to put forward topics for discussion.

  • To talk to prospective adopters at Adoption Preparation training about the role and purpose of the contact team.

  • Complete all administration in relation to post box exchanges eg recording, photocopying, scanning and filing of all incoming post.

  • Maintain spreadsheets and databases to support the monitoring of the service and provide data in a timely way when requested.

  • Additional work when required such as attendance at support groups, children's groups and stay and play and training.
