Opus People Solutions on behalf of North Northampton County Council are recruiting for a Environmental Protection Officer to join their team on a temporary contract

Overall purpose of the role:

Responsible for carrying out services and duties undertaken by the Council promoting the health, safety and welfare of the public.

Main Responsibilities:

1.Produce and update permits of processes under Part 1 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, undertaking all duties associated with such and in the inspection and enforcement of those processes.

2.Investigate contaminated land, utilising enforcement powers for remediation as
appropriate.

3.Report on planning applications, with particular reference to issues of
contaminated land, noise and air quality.

4.Remedy where possible, Statutory Nuisances, causes of environmental
Complaints.

5.Undertake duties in order to allow fulfilment of the Council's statutory requirements regarding Air Quality.

6.Carry out environmental monitoring and analysis to include recommendations as appropriate.

7.Undertake investigation of environmental land searches/ enquiries.

8.Promote environmental protection and the furtherance of public safety.

9.Assume responsibility for the storage, maintenance and usage of equipment used in relation to the above work.

10.Represent the Council at meetings, to include contact with Senior Officers of other local authorities and external organisations.

11.Assist in the training and development of departmental staff.

12.Promote good standards of customer care and quality of performance.

13.Comply with Financial Regulations, Standing Orders, Health and Safety policies/guidelines and departmental procedures.

14.Work within Core Values etc set by the Council.

15.Carry out administrative duties associated with the above work, including
Information Technology development.

16.Act in this capacity within the remit of the Department or Council as may be
determined by the Head of Service and Senior Officers.

17.To carry out such other reasonably allied duties as may be required.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

1.The postholder will possess a degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject area.

2.Experience in at least two of the fields covered by numbers 1 to 8 above would
be desirable.

3.The grade at which appointed will depend on experience and qualifications of the postholder. Progression into grade SO2 will be dependent upon possession of a degree/postgraduate qualification as detailed above and two years related appropriate experience.

4.The postholder must be prepared to gain additional relevant technical
qualifications as the demands of the service may require.

Requirements:

*The postholder is required to provide a car. A current full driving licence is therefore required. A casual user car allowance applies.

*The nature of the work will necessitate the postholder carrying out occasional duties outside normal office hours.

*The extent and involvement of the duties identified may vary according to the specialisations and functions of any team or division in which the postholder may from time to time work

*The Officer will be expected to have a positive approach to the furtherance of his/her knowledge in all areas of the Council's work and to promote personal and professional development
