Shape the Future of Infrastructure in Suffolk - Join the Sizewell Project
Are you looking for a role where your engineering expertise directly contributes to one of the UK's most high-profile infrastructure projects? Suffolk County Council is seeking a dedicated Engineer (Construction) to support our delivery of highways and transport infrastructure associated with the Sizewell Nuclear Power Station development.
As part of a focused and collaborative technical team, you'll play a key role in shaping the transport connections that will support this nationally significant energy project - and leave a legacy for Suffolk's communities.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Inspecting and technically approving highways and sustainable drainage infrastructure delivered through s278 and s38 agreements.
  • Ensuring construction meets SCC standards, national specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Liaising with contractors, developers, and colleagues to monitor progress, ensure safety, and resolve technical challenges on site.
  • Organising and documenting stage inspections, material testing, and final adoption processes.
  • Advising on street lighting, drainage, and road adoption matters, and contributing to the upkeep of essential records.
  • Supporting compliance with the Flood and Water Management Act and CDM regulations.
  • Representing the council at meetings with external stakeholders, occasionally in sensitive or high-profile settings.

What You'll Bring

  • A relevant qualification (NVQ Level 6 or equivalent), or Level 5 with strong practical experience.
  • Developing experience in highways construction, inspection, or engineering (ideally related to s278/s38 work).
  • A good understanding of transport planning, legislation, and design guidance.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with contractors, developers, and community stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with CAD or design tools is a bonus.
  • A full driving licence and access to transport - travel across Suffolk is required.

Why Join Us?

  • Exciting work on a nationally significant project at Sizewell Nuclear Power Station.
  • Company car and full PPE provided to support your work on site.
  • Supportive team environment, training and development opportunities.
  • Be part of a values-driven organisation that puts community impact and sustainability at the heart of everything.
