Job description

Job Title: Benefits Officer

Location: Walsall Council

Work Mode: Hybrid (Predominantly remote with occasional office requirements)

Pay Rate: Negotiable

Working Hours: 30 - 37 hours per week

Assignment Duration: 12 months

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, and Discretionary Housing Payment applications.
  • Interpreting complex Housing Benefit legislation and understanding subsidy and performance implications.
  • Assessing, processing, and recovering housing and council tax benefits.
  • Providing advice, information, and assistance to customers and stakeholders.
  • Maintaining financial and other systems according to legislation, government standards, and council policies.

Requirements:

  • Preferably experienced in processing benefit applications and interpreting legislation.
  • Familiarity with maintaining financial systems and providing customer support.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to ethical conduct and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
