An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Homelessness & Prevention Officer to join a forward-thinking local authority team in Rugby on an initial 6-month contract, with the potential for extension.
Working Hybrid - (3 days at home, 2 in the office)
This is a rewarding role where you will play a key part in supporting individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, ensuring high-quality, legally compliant housing advice and interventions. Assess homelessness applications in line with Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and Deliver statutory duties under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, including:
- Prevention Duty (up to 56 days before homelessness)
- Relief Duty (supporting those already homeless)
- Conduct thorough customer interviews and needs assessments
- Develop and manage Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs)
- Make and issue legally compliant statutory decisions and written notifications
- Negotiate with landlords and third parties to prevent homelessness
- Provide expert advice on housing rights and options
- Liaise with internal teams and external support services
- Maintain accurate case records in line with legislation and best practice
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Proven experience working as a Homelessness / Housing Options Officer
- Strong working knowledge of Part 7 of the Housing Act
Demonstrable experience in:
- Assessing homelessness applications
- Conducting in-depth client interviews
- Managing end-to-end statutory decision-making processes
- A solid understanding of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and relevant Code of Guidance
- Excellent communication and negotiation skillsThe ability to manage a busy caseload and meet deadlines
