Walsall | Hybrid Working (2 Days Onsite Per Week Including Tuesdays)

We are seeking an experienced Principal Planning Officer (Development Management) to join a welcoming and highly experienced Local Authority Planning team. Priority will be given to candidates who are available at short notice.

The Role

You will manage a varied caseload of complex minor and major planning applications, pre-application enquiries and associated appeals, providing professional planning advice and supporting the delivery of a high-quality Development Management service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and determine complex minor and major planning applications.
  • Handle pre-application enquiries and provide planning advice.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations in line with planning policy and legislation.
  • Manage planning appeals and represent the Council where required.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments, applicants, agents and stakeholders.
  • Support the effective delivery of the Development Management service.

About You

  • Significant Development Management experience within a Local Authority environment.
  • Proven experience handling complex planning applications and appeals.
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy and procedures.
  • Excellent report writing, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a demanding caseload.

Desirable Experience

Applications are particularly welcomed from candidates with experience in:

  • Team Leadership or Deputy Team Leadership.
  • Service Improvement projects.
  • Project Management.
  • Mentoring or supporting junior officers.

Requirements

  • Ability to attend the Walsall office 2 days per week, including Tuesdays.
  • Access to your own vehicle/car.
  • Availability on short notice is highly desirable.
