Revenues Officer (Business Rates)

Are you an experienced Business Rates professional looking for a role where your expertise is valued, your autonomy is trusted, and your work directly supports the local community?

We're looking for a Revenues Officer specialising in Business Rates to join a high-performing Revenues team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of Non-Domestic Rates legislation who enjoys solving complex cases, working independently, and delivering outstanding service to businesses and stakeholders.

In this role, you'll play a vital part in protecting and maximising the Council's income by ensuring the accurate administration, billing, collection and recovery of Business Rates. You'll use your technical knowledge, investigative skills and customer- focused approach to manage a varied caseload and help deliver an efficient, compliant and responsive service.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Managing Business Rates accounts from start to finish, including liability assessments, account amendments, billing and recovery activities.
  • Applying your specialist knowledge of Business Rates legislation to make informed decisions on liability, reliefs, exemptions and recovery action.
  • Investigating complex cases, disputes and appeals, working collaboratively with businesses, the Valuation Office Agency and other stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Supporting businesses through excellent customer service, providing clear advice and guidance on rates, payment options and available relief schemes.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, contribute to service development and help achieve collection and performance targets.
  • Managing your own workload effectively while working remotely and independently.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from candidates who:

  • Have experience working within a Local Authority Revenues service, with a strong focus on Business Rates.
  • Possess a sound understanding of Non-Domestic Rates legislation, recovery processes and relief schemes.
  • Can confidently interpret legislation and apply it to complex and often challenging cases.
  • Are self-motivated and capable of working from home with minimal supervision while delivering excellent results.
  • Have strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with customers and colleagues alike.
  • Enjoy taking ownership of their workload and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
