Are you passionate about supporting residents whilst ensuring rental income is collected effectively?
We're looking for an experienced housing professional to join our Housing Income team. This opportunity is suitable for candidates at different stages of their careers, whether you're an experienced Tenancy Officer, Housing & Income Officer or Tenancy Sustainment Officer looking to develop your income recovery expertise, or an established Rent Officer experienced in managing arrears cases through the court process.
You'll play a key role in helping residents maintain successful tenancies through early intervention, income maximisation advice, tenancy sustainment support and effective rent recovery.
What You'll Be Doing
Working within a dedicated Housing Income team, you'll:
- Manage a portfolio of rent accounts, taking a proactive approach to arrears prevention and recovery.
- Support residents to maximise their income by providing guidance on welfare benefits, Universal Credit and other sources of financial assistance.
- Identify vulnerable residents and make referrals to internal and external support services to help sustain tenancies.
- Conduct home visits, interviews and rent-focused appointments to engage with residents and agree sustainable repayment plans.
- Deliver rent surgeries and community-based support sessions, promoting a positive payment culture.
- Work closely with Neighbourhood and Tenancy teams to provide a coordinated service to residents.
- Support new tenancy sign-ups and early tenancy visits, ensuring residents understand their rent responsibilities from the outset.
- Maintain accurate case records and performance data in line with regulatory and organisational requirements.
For More Experienced Candidates
If you have experience managing legal recovery action, you will also:
- Progress arrears cases through the legal process where early interventions have not been successful.
- Prepare court documentation and possession applications.
- Represent the organisation at court hearings for rent arrears and possession cases.
- Mentor and support less experienced colleagues within the team.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience working within a social housing, local authority or housing association environment.
- Good understanding of rent collection, tenancy management or income recovery processes.
- Knowledge of welfare benefits, Universal Credit and wider support services.
- Strong customer service, negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to engage with residents in a supportive, empathetic and solution-focused manner.
- Experience of managing challenging conversations and achieving positive outcomes.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage a diverse caseload.
Additional Experience for Senior Rent Officer Level
- Experience progressing rent arrears cases through legal enforcement processes.
- Ability to prepare court documentation and present cases at court.
- Knowledge of housing legislation and relevant legal procedures relating to rent arrears and possession.
