About The Role

Peterborough City Council is seeking an experienced Advanced Practitioner to join the Social Work Academy, supporting the development of Newly Qualified Social Workers and Early Career Social Workers.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate practitioner who enjoys developing others, promoting best practice, and strengthening the future workforce within Children's Services.

Hybrid Working - 3 Days in the Office

The Role

As an Advanced Practitioner within the Social Work Academy, you will play a key role in supporting and developing social workers at the beginning of their careers. Through coaching, mentoring, and professional guidance, you will help practitioners build confidence, strengthen their practice, and achieve positive outcomes for children and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Newly Qualified Social Workers and Early Career Social Workers through their professional development journey.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and reflective supervision to enhance practice skills and confidence.
  • Promote high standards of social work practice across Children's Services.
  • Assist practitioners in applying legislation, policies, and best practice frameworks effectively.
  • Support learning and development initiatives within the Social Work Academy.
  • Encourage reflective practice and continuous professional development.
  • Work collaboratively with managers and service leaders to identify development needs and learning opportunities.
  • Contribute to the recruitment, retention, and progression of social workers within the organisation.

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
  • Significant experience working within Children's Social Care.
  • Experience supporting, mentoring, supervising, or developing social workers.
  • Strong knowledge of children's legislation, safeguarding procedures, and practice frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to inspire confidence, promote learning, and support professional growth.
