About the Role
Peterborough City Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Social Worker to join its Children in Care (CIC) Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Social Worker with at least one year's post-qualified experience who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people in care.
You will manage a varied caseload involving children in care, young people, families, foster carers, and partner agencies to deliver effective interventions that promote safety, permanence, and positive futures.
Location: Sand Martin House, Bittern Way, PE2 8TY
Rate: £39.00 per hour (Umbrella rate)
Contract: Temporary
Hours: 37 hours per week
Office Requirements: 2/3 days office based
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a Children in Care caseload, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met.
- Build strong relationships with children, young people, families, and carers to promote participation and positive outcomes.
- Undertake assessments and develop effective care plans in line with statutory requirements and local procedures.
- Complete and review pathway plans, permanence plans, and care plans.
- Assess and manage risk, making sound professional decisions to safeguard children and young people.
- Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, foster carers, residential providers, and partner agencies.
- Attend and contribute to statutory reviews, planning meetings, and court processes where required.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality case recordings and reports.
- Plan, implement, and review interventions designed to promote independence, stability, and positive change.
- Manage workload effectively and make proactive use of supervision to support professional development and reflective practice.
- Work within current legislation, statutory guidance, and Peterborough City Council policies and procedures.
About You
- Qualified Social Worker
- Social Work England registration.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Recent and substantial Children in Care (CIC) experience.
- Experience undertaking assessments, care planning, risk management, and multi-agency working.
- Strong report writing and case recording skills.
