Who are Vertas?

Our team of 5,000 colleagues provides a comprehensive range of facilities services, including cleaning, catering, property design, recruitment, transport, and environmental management. You'll find us putting the customer at the heart of everything we do, while prioritising our colleagues' health, safety and wellbeing

About the Role:

Based at Lowestoft Riverside, 4 Canning Road, Suffolk, NR33 0EQ you will be working 25 hours a week, split shifts, 6am-8.30am then 4.30pm -7pm - Monday to Friday. You'll play a key role in providing high-quality cleaning services to ensure our clients' environments are spotless, safe, and welcoming.

This is a hands-on supervisory position responsible for ensuring consistently high cleaning standards across the site, supporting and managing a team of Six Cleaners and ensuring the service runs smoothly every day.

The successful candidate must have previous cleaning supervisory experience and be confident managing people, maintaining standards and stepping into cleaning areas whenever required.

We are looking for someone who notices the things others may miss - the small details, presentation touches and finishing tasks that make the difference between an area simply being clean and the overall service being exceptional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a busy team of Six Cleaners.
  • Ensure all daily cleaning duties are completed to the required standard and within allocated times.
  • Carry out quality inspections every week, identifying and rectifying any areas requiring further attention.
  • Carry out small attention-to-detail and presentation tasks throughout the site to ensure the overall service remains at an exceptional standard.
  • Provide hands-on cleaning support and cover cleaning areas during staff sickness, absence or annual leave where required.
  • Carry out regular stock takes
  • Train, support and develop both existing and new members of the cleaning team.
  • Assist with the onboarding of new Cleaners.
  • Ensure new starters understand cleaning schedules, site expectations, COSHH requirements and cleaning standards.
  • Regularly speak with team members to understand what is working well, where they need support and whether there are any issues affecting the service.
  • Ensure safe working practices and company procedures are followed at all times.
  • Attention to Detail

A key part of this role is looking beyond the standard cleaning schedule.

The Supervisor should regularly review the site from a customer's perspective and identify smaller tasks that enhance the overall presentation of the building. This may include areas such as fingerprints and marks, edges and corners, high-touch points, presentation of washrooms and kitchens, internal glass, skirting, doors, frames, furniture, equipment and other details that can easily be overlooked during routine cleaning.

The aim is to ensure that the service does not simply meet the specification - it consistently feels spot on.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have previous cleaning supervisory experience - essential.
  • Have experience managing and motivating a cleaning team.
  • Be confident carrying out cleaning duties personally when required.
  • Have exceptionally high standards and strong attention to detail.
  • Be reliable, organised and able to manage their own workload.
  • Be comfortable addressing performance or cleaning standard issues with team members.
  • Be approachable and supportive while still maintaining clear expectations.
  • Be confident training new employees.
  • Be able to organise staff cover and manage competing priorities.
  • Have a good understanding of cleaning chemicals, equipment and COSHH procedures.
  • Be proactive and able to identify problems before they become complaints.
  • Take genuine pride in delivering an excellent cleaning service.
