Probation Officer (Youth Justice Service)

Elmwood Place | Hybrid Working - Full Time - 37 Hours per Week - Up to 6 Month Contract - Enhanced DBS Required

Opus People Solutions are recruiting on behalf of our client for a qualified Probation Officer to join a supportive Youth Justice Service on a temporary contract for up to six months.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Probation Officer looking for a varied role within a collaborative team environment. Whilst experience within Youth Justice is desirable, we welcome applications from qualified Probation Officers with experience gained within adult probation services.

Working as part of a dedicated team of approximately 25 professionals, you will receive regular supervision, weekly check-ins and ongoing support to ensure you are fully equipped to succeed in the role.

The Role

You will undertake the full range of offender management responsibilities for young people on probation, including assessments, sentence implementation, report writing and risk management.

The position is primarily based at Elmwood Place, with a minimum of two office-based days per week. The remainder of your time will be spent attending court, conducting visits and working with partner agencies across the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a caseload of young people on probation.
  • Completing assessments and sentence plans using OASys.
  • Producing high quality reports for criminal courts and partner agencies.
  • Assessing and managing risk to victims, children and the wider public.
  • Providing professional advice and information to courts and criminal justice partners.
  • Working collaboratively with safeguarding, education, health and other statutory agencies.
  • Attending multi agency meetings, including MAPPA and other partnership forums.
  • Conducting home, community and custodial visits as required.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation within agreed timescales.
  • Supporting positive outcomes and reducing reoffending through effective offender management.

About You

To be considered, you must have:

  • A recognised Probation Officer qualification.
  • Experience completing OASys assessments.
  • Previous court experience and confidence producing court reports.
  • Strong offender management and risk assessment experience.
  • Excellent communication and partnership working skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and public protection.

Experience within a Youth Justice Service would be advantageous but is not essential. Candidates with adult probation experience are encouraged to apply.

Additional Information

  • Full time position (37 hours per week).
  • Hybrid working arrangement.
  • Minimum of two days per week at Elmwood Place.
  • Travel throughout the local area is required; therefore access to your own vehicle is essential.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance is required.
  • Contract expected to last up to six months whilst permanent recruitment is undertaken.

If you are a qualified Probation Officer seeking your next opportunity within a supportive and rewarding environment, we'd love to hear from you.

If successful, candidates will be required to provide information to support the Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council's commitment to the prevention and detection of fraud. This information will be processed by the Council's Internal Audit Services and may be shared with the National Fraud Initiative (NFI) for data matching
