Opus People Solutions are recruiting on behalf of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council for an experienced Forestry Officer / Tree Surveyor to support their Forestry Service during a period of transition.

This is a flexible contract opportunity, primarily site-based in Solihull, with a pay rate of £36 per hour. The assignment is ongoing with an immediate start available.

Please see a high-level overview of the role below:

  • Carry out tree inspections, condition assessments and risk surveys across the borough
    Undertake BS5837 surveys in support of highways, infrastructure and development projects
  • Produce arboricultural reports, recommendations and technical advice relating to tree management and potential tree removal
  • Support planning, construction and environmental projects by assessing the impact of development on trees and woodland assets
  • Investigate and respond to tree-related service requests from the public and council departments
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and contractors to ensure arboricultural works remain compliant with relevant legislation and industry standards
  • Support the management of both urban and rural tree stock, woodlands and forestry assets

The ideal candidate will have experience with:

  • BS5837 tree surveys and development-related arboricultural assessments
  • Professional Tree Inspection (PTI) or equivalent recognised tree inspection qualification
  • Arboricultural report writing and tree risk assessment
  • Managing tree stock within a local authority, consultancy or similar environment
  • GIS systems and arboricultural database systems
  • Relevant qualifications, including an NDip in Arboriculture (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience within Local Government
