Opus People Solutions are recruiting on behalf of our Client, Coventry City Council for a Season Grass Cutter on a temporary basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cut grass using pedestrian and ride-on mowers.
- Strim around obstacles, trees, headstones, fences, and borders.
- Trim and maintain hedges, shrubs, and small trees.
- Carry out pruning, planting, watering, and general horticultural tasks.
- Weed hard and soft landscaped areas using approved methods.
- Clean paths, roads, car parks, and public areas.
- Carry out cemetery maintenance
- Assist with setting up for funerals and other ceremonial events when requested.
- Operate and maintain grounds maintenance machinery safely, including mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, blowers, and other powered equipment.
- Carry out daily vehicle and machinery inspections and report defects promptly.
- Maintain tools and equipment in a clean and serviceable condition.
- Work safely in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
- Report hazards, vandalism, defects, and health and safety concerns.
- Communicate professionally and courteously with members of the public, visitors, funeral directors, contractors, and colleagues.
- Undertake winter maintenance duties, including gritting and snow clearance where required.
- Assist with other duties appropriate to the role as directed by management.
Health and Safety
The post holder is responsible for:
- Following all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Reporting accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Operating machinery only when trained and authorised.
- Ensuring safe manual handling techniques are used.
Essential Requirements
- Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, horticulture, or a similar role.
- Ability to operate grounds maintenance machinery safely.
- Good knowledge of safe working practices.
- Physically fit and able to undertake manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work with minimal supervision.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Regular lifting, bending, kneeling, and manual handling.
- Use of noisy and vibrating machinery.
- Occasional weekend, bank holiday, or seasonal working may be required.
