We are seeking an experienced Income & Recovery Officer to support a Local Authority team in the administration, collection, and recovery of Council Tax, Business Rates, Benefit Overpayments, and other Council debts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and recover outstanding Council debts in line with legislation and policy.
- Negotiate payment arrangements and monitor repayment plans.
- Handle customer enquiries via phone, email, and written correspondence.
- Trace absconded debtors using tracing tools and external agencies.
- Identify vulnerable customers and refer them for appropriate support.
- Liaise with internal departments, courts, enforcement agents, landlords, and other external bodies.
- Process refunds, write-offs, discounts, and account amendments where required.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in Revenues, Recovery, Council Tax, Business Rates, or Debt Recovery.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and recovery processes.
- Ability to manage a busy caseload and work independently.
