About the Role
Peterborough Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join its Family Safeguarding Team. This is a long‑term safeguarding role working with children and families where there are ongoing concerns related to risk and protection.You will manage a caseload aligned with statutory safeguarding responsibilities and contribute to achieving positive outcomes for children through effective assessment and intervention.
Working Pattern: Hybrid - minimum of 2 days per week in the office, subject to business needs. The role requires the ability to visit and work directly with children and families across Peterborough, including for urgent matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload within a long‑term safeguarding team
- Work on cases under Section 17 (Child in Need) and Section 47 (Child Protection)
- Manage cases involved in Public Law Outline (PLO) and Care Proceedings through to final hearing
- Complete high‑quality assessments and deliver effective interventions to promote children's welfare
- Identify, assess, and respond to risk, ensuring children are protected and supported appropriately
- Work directly with children and families, maintaining a child‑focused and strengths‑based approach
Skills
- Experience working within a Family Safeguarding or Long‑Term Safeguarding Team
- Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England Registration
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team
- Confident in direct work, assessment, and court‑related requirements
