About the Role

Shropshire Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker or Senior Social Worker to join the Children Looked After ServiceThis is a hybrid role, combining office-based work at The Guildhall in Shrewsbury with travel across the county to support children, families, and placement providers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and manage your own caseload, with support and supervision from your Team Manager.
  • Complete a range of assessments informed by direct engagement with children, young people, and their families.
  • Progress and monitor children's care and pathway plans, ensuring they receive the right level of support at the right time.
  • Carry out statutory visits to children placed at home, in foster care, and within residential settings, in line with CLA requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate key meetings such as care planning, risk management, placement stability discussions, PEPs, and reviews.
  • Provide information, guidance, and support to children and families to help resolve difficulties and promote positive outcomes.
  • Undertake court-related work where necessary, including responsibilities linked to revocation of care orders, SGO applications, and placement orders.
  • Participate in the team duty system as required.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive electronic case records in line with council policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, carers, guardians, and multi-agency professionals to ensure a joined approach to care and support.

Skills

  • Qualified Social Worker
  • Strong understanding of legislation and best practice relating to looked-after children
  • Ability to build effective, compassionate working relationships with children, families, and partner agencies
  • Reliable, organised, and confident in managing a varied caseload
  • Willingness and ability to travel across Shropshire as required
  • 3 Years post qualifying experience
