West Northamptonshire Council Digital, Technology & Innovation (DTI) Team

West Northamptonshire Council is looking for an experienced Infrastructure Lead to help shape and support the technology services used by more than 4,700 staff across the organisation. This is a key leadership role within our Digital, Technology & Innovation team, where you'll oversee core infrastructure services and ensure they remain secure, reliable and fit for purpose.

The Role

You'll lead a small team of infrastructure technicians, making sure day‑to‑day operations run smoothly and that services are delivered to agreed standards. You'll take ownership of complex technical issues, guide the team through project work, and act as the Council's subject matter expert for infrastructure, data centres, hardware and software.

Your work will support major technology improvements across the organisation, and you'll play a central role in keeping our systems secure, up to date and performing at their best.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the Infrastructure team, ensuring high‑quality service delivery and strong customer satisfaction.

  • Oversee day‑to‑day infrastructure operations and support the delivery of DTI and business projects.

  • Provide expert technical guidance, training and consultancy to technicians, contractors and end‑users.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical incidents in line with WNC security policies and SLAs.

  • Proactively monitor systems to identify issues early and minimise disruption.

  • Ensure all infrastructure (Wintel/VMware) is kept secure and fully patched.

  • Produce clear, professional technical documentation, user guides and onboarding materials.

About You

You're an experienced infrastructure professional with strong leadership skills and a hands‑on approach. You enjoy solving technical challenges, improving services and supporting others to develop. You stay ahead of technology trends and take pride in delivering secure, reliable and efficient IT services.

If you're looking for a role where you can make a real impact and help drive forward the Council's digital services, we'd be pleased to hear from you.
