Light and Medium Vehicle Driver/Street Orderly

Pay: £16.35 per hour

Length: Ongoing

Location: Corby/Wellingborough (required to cover both depots where needed)

Shifts: Ad hoc - Bookings confirmed every week

Corby - Monday - Thursday 07:00 - 15:00, Friday 07:00 - 14:30

Wellingborough - Tuesday - Friday 07:00 - 17:00

Opus People Solutions are recruiting on behalf of North Northamptonshire Council for 3.5t and 7.5 Drivers to temporarily join their busy team within Environmental Services.

Principal responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the safe operation and control of any vehicle allocated in accordance with Road Traffic Acts and Regulations
  • Responsible for the vehicle, including daily vehicle checks, promptly recording and reporting defects, routine maintenance and cleaning
  • Reporting of access problems and contamination where necessary
  • Assisting with collection and loading of waste and recycling as required
  • Providing the general public with a high-quality customer focused service at all times.
  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety requirements at all times
  • Helping to ensure that the daily work of the service is completed on time and to acceptable standards as directed
  • Comply with site rules, traffic management plans and instructions at the Depot or Waste Transfer/ Disposal sites.
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, statutory requirements and guidance
  • Present a positive image of the services, through tidy appearance, polite and courteous behaviour

The perfect candidate will:

  • Be prepared to work outdoors in all weathers (PPE provided)
  • Be physically fit, the job can require walking up to 12 miles per day as well as ability to perform heavy lifting is needed i.e. bulky waste removal of furniture and white goods in a 2-man team
  • Hold a full clean driving licence for the post advertised, tachograph and up to date Driver CPC qualification
  • Show flexibility and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the operation of the service which includes removal of heavy items, street cleansing and litter picking
  • Must be polite and helpful with the public, representing the Council Values and Behaviours at all times
  • Ensure that all work carried out is in line with service objectives

Interviews will be held face to face and a short driving test may also be required with ASAP start offered.
