Waste HGV Driver

Pay: £16.35 per hour

Shift pattern: Ad hoc, up to 37 hours per week, Mon-Fri

Location: On site

Length: Ongoing

Additional requirements: 2 years' experience in a HGV driving role

Opus People Solutions are recruiting on behalf of North Northamptonshire Council for a HGV Driver to join their Waste Services team, undertaking the collection and disposal of all residual and recycling support from domestic and commercail premises.

Principal responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the safe operation and control of any vehicle allocated in accordance with Road Traffic Acts and Regulations
  • Responsible for the vehicle, including daily vehicle checks, promptly recording and reporting defects, routine maintenance and cleaning
  • Reporting of access problems and contamination where necessary
  • Assisting with collection and loading of waste and recycling as required
  • Providing the general public with a high quality customer focused service at all times.
  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety requirements at all times
  • Helping to ensure that the daily work of the service is completed on time and to acceptable standards as directed
  • Comply with site rules, traffic management plans and instructions at the Depot or Waste Transfer/ Disposal sites.
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, statutory requirements and guidance
  • Present a positive image of the services, through tidy appearance, polite and courteous behaviour

The perfect candidate will:

  • Be prepared to work outdoors in all weathers (PPE provided)
  • Be physically fit, the job can require walking up to 12 miles per day as well as ability to perform heavy lifting if needed
  • Hold a full clean driving licence for the post advertised, tachograph and up to date Driver CPC qualification
  • Show flexibility and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the operation of the waste service
  • Must be polite and helpful with the public, representing the Council Values and Behaviours at all times
  • Ensure that all work carried out is in line with service objectives
