About the Role

Northamptonshire Children's Trust is seeking an experienced and motivated Social Worker to join our Duty & Assessment Team. This is a front line service and the first point of contact for all incoming safeguarding concerns regarding children and young people across the county.

Cases are initially screened by MASH before progressing to Duty and Assessment where you will be responsible for completing assessments, undertaking visits, and ensuring timely and effective safeguarding interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to all new safeguarding referrals passed from MASH.

  • Complete timely assessments, including Children in Need

  • Undertake prompt home visits to ensure the immediate safety and well being of children.

  • Manage a caseload of approximately 25-30 cases, capped at 35.

  • Work with both individual children and larger family groups.

  • Liaise with partner agencies such as health, education, and police to gather information, share updates, and coordinate interventions.

  • Attend strategy discussions, case conferences, and multi-agency meetings as required.

  • Implement Child in Need and Child Protection Plans.

  • Ensure all actions are recorded, evidenced, and completed within statutory timelines.

  • Build positive working relationships with children and families to understand their needs, strengths, and risks.

  • Use relationship‑based practice to support children and improve outcomes.

  • Ensure the voice of the child is heard and captured in all assessments and plans.

  • Screen, triage, and respond to incoming concerns.

  • Produce high-quality assessments, reports and safety plans.

Skills:

  • Confident in front line safeguarding practice

  • Experienced with child protection and assessment

  • Able to work at pace while maintaining high standards

  • Strong communicators with excellent multi‑agency working skills

  • Committed to ensuring children are safeguarded and supported effectively

  • Social Work England Registered

  • Qualified Social Worker

Working Arrangements

  • Teams operate a 6 week duty cycle

  • During duty week, workers must be in the office full-time

  • Must be local and available for visits as require

  • Outside of duty week, flexible working is supported where appropriate
