About the role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Practitioner to join our Children Looked After Team at Shropshire Council.
As a Senior Practitioner, you will act as a key point of support for social workers, offering professional advice and mentoring while managing complex cases. You will champion best practice and ensure compliance with statutory requirements, working closely with multi-agency partners to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
Responsiblities
- Maintain high standards of personal performance with the support of your Team Manager
- Undertake assessments informed by direct work with children and families
- Progress care and pathway plans, ensuring timely access to services
- Complete statutory visits to children at home, in foster care, and residential settings
- Manage cases and coordinate meetings (care planning, risk management, placement stability, PEPs, reviews)
- Provide advice and information to children and families
- Handle court work related to revocation of care orders, SGO, and placement orders
- Participate in the team's duty system
- Maintain accurate records in line with policies and procedures
- Work collaboratively with parents, guardians, and professionals
Skills
- Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
- Significant experience in children's social care, particularly with looked-after children.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage complex cases and support team development.
