About the Role
Are you a visionary leader ready to drive strategy and change at the heart of local government? Shropshire Council is seeking a dynamic Service Director for Strategy and Change to join our Leadership Board. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the council's key strategic priorities, as set out in the new Shropshire Plan, and lead our ambitious programme to become a modern, efficient, and sustainable council.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategically lead the development and delivery of a new Shropshire Plan, including the Improvement Plan, Partnership Plan and People Plan.
- Lead the Programme Management Office (PMO), and work collaboratively across departments to deliver strategic and transformation projects.
- Provide specialist insight and advice to ensure services align with the council's vision and priorities.
- Oversee statutory, non-statutory, and regulatory responsibilities within your function.
- Foster strong relationships with Members, partners, and stakeholders at local, regional, and national levels.
- Champion innovation, continuous improvement, and evidence-based decision-making.
- Ensure robust governance, financial management, and performance monitoring.
- Lead the development and implementation of key strategies, including communications, organisational design, business intelligence, and public engagement.
About You
- Extensive senior leadership experience in strategic planning, transformation, commissioning, and service delivery.
- Proven ability to manage large budgets, drive commercial outcomes, and deliver results in complex environments.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to inspire and influence at all levels.
- Experience in policy development, programme management, and partnership working.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to the council's values of diversity, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
- Degree or professional qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
