Are you a visionary leader with a passion for place shaping, strategic planning, and inclusive growth? Shropshire Council is seeking a Service Director Place Shaping to join our Leadership Board working collaboratively to shape and deliver the council's strategic priorities as defined in the new Shropshire Plan. This is a pivotal role, responsible for driving the county's place, economic development, planning, housing delivery, and asset management agendas.
About the Role
As Service Director Place Shaping, you will:
- Strategically drive delivery of the Council's corporate priorities through placemaking, ensuring alignment with the new Shropshire Plan, capital strategy, and improvement plans.
- Lead and integrate the functions of Economic Growth & Development, Strategic Partnerships, Property & Assets, Planning & Development Management, Place Planning, and Cornovii Developments.
- Secure external funding (e.g., Towns Fund, Levelling Up Fund, Shared Prosperity Fund) to support place shaping initiatives.
- Foster partnerships with developers, government agencies, and community stakeholders.
- Oversee the council's property portfolio and asset management, ensuring value and supporting service delivery.
- Lead the Planning Division, including development control, strategic planning, and policy formulation.
- Champion inclusive regeneration that respects Shropshire's rural character while addressing connectivity, housing affordability, and employment diversification.
- Represent the council on regional economic boards and partnerships.
What We're Looking For
- Degree or equivalent in regeneration, planning, rural development, or a related discipline.
- Extensive senior leadership experience in economic growth, property and assets, planning, and housing.
- Proven track record in leading transformational change and delivering high-quality, cost-effective services.
- Strong financial management and commercial acumen.
- Ability to build effective partnerships and influence at all levels.
