Assistant Chef

Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30am to 3:30pm
Salary: £14.00 per hour
Contract: Permanent
Weekly Hours: 37.5 hours
Setting: Working within a professional restaurant environment at County Hall
An Assistant Chef is required to join the catering team at The Mardle Restaurant, County Hall in Norwich. This role is key to delivering high-quality meals for staff and visitors in a busy, customer-focused setting. You will work alongside the Head Chef to ensure smooth kitchen operations and exceptional food standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and present a variety of dishes to a high standard
- Assist in menu planning and contribute creative ideas
- Ensure compliance with food hygiene, allergen, and health and safety regulations
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen and food preparation areas
- Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering, and reduce food waste
- Support the Head Chef with daily operations and cover duties when required
- Work efficiently to meet deadlines during busy service periods
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in a catering or chef role, ideally in a commercial or institutional setting
- Knowledge of food safety standards and allergen management
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
- Strong organisational skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to delivering high-quality service
- Must hold an Enhanced DBS or be willing to obtain one
