Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: 22.5 hours per week, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday (Must be flexible to work evenings and weekends if events are on)
Main Purpose of the Job: The Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day oversee of cleaning, catering and caretaking service delivery across their area. The job holder will manage the cleaners, caterers & caretakers, building effective partnerships with clients and colleagues. You will manage the team with full responsibility for the success and safe running of the contracts, providing direction, guidance, training, and support to your team to deliver excellent service.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day delivery of cleaning, catering and caretaker's.
  • Line manage and support the cleaning, catering and caretaking team, ensuring compliance with ongoing training needs and appraisals, incorporating recruitment, personal development, and succession planning.
  • Ensure site and employee health and safety compliance with procedures and legislation.
  • Maintain and correct site documentation and risk assessments.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and processes across all locations, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Regular customer contact to ensure responsiveness and adaptability, including site visits, quality auditing, and improving compliance and standards.
  • Monitor stock levels and place orders for sites.
  • Ensure all site equipment is functional and as required.
  • Maintain budgetary responsibility to ensure contract viability.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, cost savings, and account growth.
  • Plan and organise staffing requirements, including arranging cover for sickness and holidays, and manage the time and attendance system.
  • Build a strong network of local cover staff to fill any roles that become vacant, either short or long term.
  • Generate new business from existing clients.
  • Retain customers by ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction with reliable service delivery through a motivated, trained workforce.
  • Log, respond to, and solve customer problems quickly and efficiently, escalating issues when necessary to ensure contract retention.
  • Manage and implement policies and procedures such as Attendance Management and Performance Capability.
  • Prioritise workload to meet ad hoc service demands and requirements.


Experience and Key Skills:

  • Proven track record in a similar position with sound management experience.
  • Strong communication and organisation skills.
  • Ability to think outside the box and deliver against set targets.
  • Experience in facilities management, ideally in educational sites such as schools and colleges.
  • Excellent client communication skills with the ability to analyse and present information clearly.
  • Positive attitude to challenges with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Experience in account management and P&L processes.
  • Effective people management skills to develop weaknesses and encourage growth.
  • Confident with multi-site management.
  • Strong, consistent, and effective communicator at all levels.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively.
  • Proactive and able to use initiative.
  • Competent and proficient in the use of IT software and packages.
  • Strong organisational skills and a 'can do' attitude.
