Senior Social Worker - Duty and Assessment Team

Location: Walsall Council
Pay Rate: £30.57 per hour
Working Arrangement: Hybrid (Minimum 3 days in the office)

 

Walsall Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Social Worker to join our Duty and Assessment Team, where you will play a vital role in safeguarding children and supporting families during critical moments of need.

 

As a Senior Social Worker, you will be responsible for undertaking timely assessments and delivering immediate interventions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. You will be part of a dynamic team that responds to new referrals, working collaboratively with multi-agency partners to provide effective safeguarding and support.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of children and families referred to the service.
  • Respond promptly to new referrals, including initial visits and risk assessments.
  • Develop and implement child-centred plans that promote safety, stability, and wellbeing.
  • Engage with children, families, and professionals to gather information and make informed decisions.
  • Work closely with health, education, police, and other agencies to coordinate support and intervention.
  • Prepare and present reports for Child Protection Conferences, Looked After Reviews, and court proceedings.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality case records in line with statutory and local authority requirements.
  • Contribute to team development and support junior staff where appropriate.

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England.
  • Proven experience in frontline children's social work, particularly within duty and assessment or safeguarding teams.
  • Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage a complex caseload effectively.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
