Senior Practitioner - Safeguarding Team
Location: Peterborough City Council
Hours: 37 per week
Length of Assignment: Initially 3 months
Rate: £40 per hour
Working Pattern: Hybrid - minimum 1 day in the office, more when on duty
About the Role
Opus People Solutions, on behalf of Peterborough City Council, is recruiting a Senior Practitioner to join their Children's Safeguarding Team. This is a key role for an experienced social worker who can manage complex cases and support the development of others within the team.
You will hold a caseload of children in need, child protection, and court proceedings, working collaboratively with families and professionals to ensure the best outcomes for children. You'll also support the Team Manager with supervision duties and act as a practice lead and educator for newly qualified staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex cases involving children in need, child protection, and court proceedings
- Undertake timely assessments and reviews in line with statutory and operational standards
- Support and supervise social workers and alternatively qualified staff as directed
- Act as a practice lead and contribute to the induction of new team members
- Serve as a practice educator for ASYE social workers
- Lead and participate in project and development work
- Maintain accurate, confidential records in line with council policies
- Develop effective partnerships with internal teams and external agencies
Requirements
- Qualified and registered Social Worker
- Minimum 3 years' post-qualifying experience
- Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and procedures
- Proven ability to manage complex cases and support team development
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
