About the job:

Opus People Solutions, on behalf of West Northamptonshire Council, are looking for a Winter Shelter staff member to work with the WNC shift Team Leader to ensure that the Winter Shelter remains a calm, safe place where guests feel valued and supported.

It is a part- time role. Start at 8am, finish at 1am.

  • Assist guests to obtain hot and cold drinks, and ensure that any food to be consumed is prepared according to appropriate food hygiene standards.
  • Keep the main kitchen and dining room clean and tidy, including regular washing up and wiping of surfaces.
  • Interact with guests in a pleasant and professional manner, contributing to a welcoming environment, leading to increasing trust of our guests in the shelter provision and the wrap-around service provided.
  • Put leftover food either in the fridge or in the bin as appropriate.
  • Empty the kitchen bin into the external bins.
  • Wash, dry and put away any used crockery, cutlery and utensils.
  • Wipe down all kitchen and dining room surfaces, tables, dining chairs, cupboard door handles and any other areas that are regularly touched such as door handles, etc., using antibacterial spray, contributing as far as possible to a Covid-19 free environment.
  • When the main kitchen/dining room is clean and tidy, empty the drying machines in the laundry room. Place the winter shelter bedding into neat piles on the laundry room worksurfaces. Place guest clothing into sacks, ensuring the guest name and room number is clearly visible on the sack. Leave the sack on the floor of the laundry room in a tidy way so that it is not a trip hazard.
  • Transfer damp washing from the washing machine into the dryers, taking care to note which guest laundry belongs to whom. Start the dryers.
  • Fill the washing machines with the next laundry loads, taking care to note which guest laundry belongs to whom. Start the machines.
  • Obtain from the Team Leader a list of rooms that need cleaning and preparing for the next guest.
  • In the rooms that need preparing for the next guest, strip the bedding and place into laundry sacks ready for washing. Make up the bed with fresh bedding. Wipe all surfaces with antibacterial spray, contributing as far as possible to a Covid-19 free environment. If a sharp is found, stop and notify the Team Leader immediately, who will take the appropriate action. Take the bedding to the laundry room, ready for washing when a machine becomes available.
  • Notify the Team Leader which rooms have been made ready for a new guest.
  • In the kitchenette on each floor, wipe all surfaces with antibacterial spray, contributing as far as possible to a Covid-19 free environment. Wash up any cutlery or crockery that may be found, and notify the Team Leader of this, as guests should be returning these items to the main kitchen. Mop floors using the appropriate mop, bucket and cleaning solution.
  • In each toilet throughout the communal areas of the building, wipe surfaces with antibacterial spray, contributing as far as possible to a Covid-19 free environment. Mop floors using the appropriate mop, bucket and cleaning solution. Restock toilet rolls as necessary.
  • In each shower throughout the communal areas of the building, wipe surfaces with antibacterial spray, contributing as far as possible to a Covid-19 free environment. Mop floors using the appropriate mop, bucket and cleaning solution.
  • Wipe all communal door handles and staircase handrails with antibacterial spray, contributing as far as possible to a Covid-19 free environment.
  • Report to the Team Leader anything unusual you have seen or heard.
  • At the end of your shift, report to the Team Leader any damages you have found.
  • Before you leave the building, you must sign your shift log to confirm you were present, and the hours you worked.
