About the job:

We are looking for experienced Social Workers who want to make a difference to the lives of people in Suffolk. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to be involved in the implementation of a redesigned service that will transform the way we respond to people who come to us for advice, care and support.

  • Carry out asset-based assessments/ reviews, many of which are complex and challenging
  • Carry out background research on referrals, some of which will be distressing and/ or emotionally/ mentally demanding
  • Work as a role model showing unqualified team members how to manage creatively within budgetary restraints to achieve value for money for customers, carers and the service
  •  Give good financial and benefit advice in complex and conflicting situations, including Adult safeguarding situations
  •  Appropriately identify eligibility in line with current legislation and policy
  • Advise customers and carers concerning their rights, the options available to them and how they can be better supported in a wide variety of difficult and challenging circumstances
  •  Work within Department policy and procedures
  • Have case responsibility for allocated customers, many of which will be complex and challenging
  •  Share knowledge and learning with colleagues and support team development
  • Contribute effectively to supervision, team meetings, training and staff development opportunities
  • Supervise a small number of unqualified IWPs (up to 3)
  • Liaise with other professionals to provide appropriate advice and information
  • Maintain links with a wide range of agencies and voluntary organisations
  • Keep timely, full and accurate computer records of all work undertaken with customers
  • A recognised social work qualification – CQSW, CSS, DIpSW
  • HCPC registration
  • In depth knowledge of relevant legislation and ability to apply it
  • Knowledge of Adult Social Work Services and relevant customer groups
  • Ability to work with adults of any age who have a learning or physical disability, frailty, cognitive impairment or dementia
  •  An understanding of working with people facing major change in their life
  •  Ability to work innovatively and autonomously
  •  Experience of meeting required standards of performance
