About the job:

We have an exciting and unique opportunity for a Qualified Social Worker to be involved in a service that responds to people who have concerns for their safety and require advice, care and quick, decisive action.

You will work as part of the Adult Protection Team (APT) that is responsible for the area of safeguarding adults at risk of abuse within the wider remit of social care provision. This will mean embracing the model of Supporting Lives, Connecting Communities Model (SLCC) and embedding this in the team.

The APT provides a range of information, support, advice and intervention to customers when there is a reasonable cause to suspect that abuse has occurred.

You will be working with customers and their carers whose needs are complex, to assist them with a protection plan.

As a Social Worker within APT you will work with colleagues from Social Work teams, Provider Support Team, Contracts Department and alongside our partner agencies such as Health, Suffolk Constabulary and the third sector.

  • Safeguard adults at risk of abuse and neglect in Suffolk by leading complex safeguarding enquiries when there is reasonable cause to suspect that abuse has occurred;
  • Act as a professional safeguarding operational lead to the Adult Safeguarding Service, Cluster Teams, Providers and other agencies;
  • Ensuring the implementation of customer focused Safeguarding Plans;
  • Take part in a duty system;
  • Monitor and timely allocate incoming work and take a role in the day to day running of the team;
  • Promote a high-performance culture within the Adult Protection Team that is flexible, innovative, responsive to changing priorities and empowers people to deliver;
  • Support the Team Manager in monitoring and reviewing service delivery plans and priorities, to ensure delivery and the escalation of risks as appropriate;
  • Ensure that all statutory services and operational duties and obligations (e.g. Care Act, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act) are fulfilled and delivered to agreed standards and quality frameworks. Maintaining legal literacy to achieve this;
  • Undertake relevant and specific tasks as defined by the Adult Safeguarding Manager.
  • Extensive knowledge of social work practice, with an emphasis on risk management, with adults of any age who have physical, sensory, learning disability, dementia or other long-term conditions;
  • Demonstrable understanding of best practice in Adult Safeguarding including sound judgement and beneficial outcomes in complex safeguarding cases;
  • A passion for improving the lives of people who access our services;
  • Proven ability to advise and lead others with specific safeguarding issues;
  • Extensive experience in supporting staff with complex casework, including chairing relevant meetings, following agreed procedures and resulting in robust action plans with defined timescales;
  • Ability to effectively advise and guide customers, staff, and other agencies;
  • Good literacy skills to enable the writing of reports, letters, emails etc;
  • Good IT skills e.g. use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Liquid Logic, etc.
  • Social Work qualification at degree level, or equivalent;
  • Evidence of continuous professional development;
  • Either have or have commitment to achieving PQ award;
  • HCPC or relevant other registration.
