About the job:

We are seeking a Registered Children’s Home Manager to join a children’s home in Beccles, Suffolk. As a manager in Children & Young People’s Services you will be at the forefront of managing change, leading high quality and effective ways of working and managing staff, resources or projects to achieve the best possible outcomes for children, young people and their families in Suffolk.

The responsibility of the Children and Young People’s Directorate (CYP) is to ensure the safety, well-being and learning of children and young people. To do so we need to “make every intervention count” to create impact and bring about sustainable change for children, young people and their families where need is identified. We are determined to continuously improve our services by working in partnership to ensure that our work is high quality and effective.

The children’s homes service provides good quality accommodation for the looked after children of Suffolk.  The staff teams within each home provide care and support to the children building positive relationships, resilience and identifying what is necessary to achieve the best possible outcomes for their future lives.

  • Ensure that the home operates in line with its Statement of Purpose.
  • Be directly responsible for effective management of the Children’s Home and its staff to safeguard children and achieve best outcomes for them.
  • Manage and monitor complaints.
  • Monitor Quality Assurance and compliance for Ofsted, Regulation 44 and 45 reporting, Regulation 40 reporting, Statement of Purpose updates and manage and contribute to the policies for the Children’s Homes.
  • Provide cover and manage the out of hours on call service.
  • To be flexible with your hours of work in order to provide leadership and management in the home when it is most needed.
  • Oversee the assessment process undertaken by Children’s home staff for risk assessments, referrals for placements, behaviour management plans and any other assessment process relevant to the Home.
  • Be responsible for building management, Health and Safety, including Fire safety, accident reporting, RIDDOR notifications and Emergency Plans.
  • Appropriately manage and communicate information to a range of stakeholders; CYP staff, senior managers, partners and communities.
  • Ensure the active participation of children, young people and parents/carers in service planning and delivery as appropriate and use feedback to inform service delivery and staff development.
  • Ensure that complaints and representations are managed appropriately within Suffolk County Council’s complaints policy and that early, informal resolutions are sought wherever possible.
  • Qualifications, skills and experience necessary for managing the children’s home.
  • Proven leadership qualities and interpersonal skills.
  • Committed to listening to children and families and to working collaboratively with them to address concerns.
  • Comprehensive understanding of legislation, guidance and national policy framework relevant to role for provision of services.
  •  High level planning skills to ensure milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Evidenced knowledge of safeguarding practice and procedures
  •  Physically and mentally fit to manage the children’s home.
  • Suitable professional qualification at post graduate level or equivalent experience at seasoned professional level in a relevant area of work.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services in the children and young people’s residential management pathway or a qualification which the registered provider considers to be equivalent to the Level 5 Diploma.
  • Within the last 5 years, worked at least two years in a position relevant to the residential care of children and worked for at least one year in a role requiring the supervision and management of staff working in a care role.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in a management role.
