About the job:

We’re seeking a Project Manager to drive through some key pieces of project work for Emberton Country Park in Milton Keynes.

As Project Manager you will play a key role in the effective planning, management of business gain, scope control, risk mitigation, quality management, and review of the project.

The role will be directed by the Head of Service who will provide broad boundaries within which the project needs to operate and the outcomes it needs to deliver.  However, you will have the creative freedom to define how the project is delivered in practice to achieve these.

  • Responsible for the success of the project by taking appropriate actions where required and working closely with, and advising, the Project Sponsor, Board and key project stakeholders on the risks and recommendations.
  • Defining the overall project structure, organisation, delivery strategy and schedule of the project, working with the project sponsor and directing project team members to ensure the delivery of what is needed, when it is needed to maintain quality and standards of outputs.
  • Responsible for all aspects of project planning and management, including; strategy, timescales and budget.
  • Accountable for the day-to day management of all staff working on the project, including links to staff working on other projects. Establishing and managing interfaces between staff and stakeholders of current and other projects and communicating outcomes, benefits and risk to relevant interested parties on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for ensuring adequate communication and consultation with stakeholders, suppliers and users (internal and external) to ensure outcomes meet expectations. This may involve negotiation with users and suppliers in order to find an acceptable balance between expectations and financial and resource requirements for the project.
  • Accountable for ensuring that projects achieve their required outcomes and to work proactively with the project sponsor and board to ensure any areas of non-financial risk or likely failures are dealt with in a controlled and appropriate manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring that risks that are identified and are continually reviewed and measured, assessing mitigation of the risk, and ensuring appropriate contingencies are in place.

 

  • Knowledge and experience of project management techniques, and approaches with practical experience of managing and delivering complex projects.
  • Project management qualification, ideally Prince 2, supporting Knowledge and practical experience of project management techniques.
  • Understanding of business management principles and skills that will enable you to manage business elements of the projects and project teams effectively on a day-to-day basis.
  • Proven ability to successfully plan complex work programmes, prioritise workloads and manage resources.
  • Proven ability to manage and deliver multiple project work streams within budget and timeframe constraints.
  • Proven ability to successfully implement strategies, turning plans into actions and successful outcomes.
  • Ability to influence and motivate; line and non-line managed staff.
  • Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to effectively convey complex information to individuals at all levels in an accessible manner.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, sharing knowledge and experience, recognise the strengths and weaknesses of others, and constructively challenge to achieve productive outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels across the Council, external organisations, stakeholders and members of the public.
  • Problem solving skills that will enable you to solve complex problems and ensure successful outcomes, removing blockages and obstructions to success.
