About the job

We are seeking an experienced and qualified Occupational Therapist to work for the Eye/ North West Integrated Neighbourhood Team.

The aim is to maximise customers’ independence by meeting their needs as quickly as possible, whether they are straight-forward, complex or enduring.


  • Play a key role in promoting personalisation, independence, well-being and choice by providing a Social Care service to customers
  • Carry out complex asset-based assessments/ reviews and short term enablement plans
  • Work with and support a wide range of people whose situations are complex and challenging and who are vulnerable or disadvantaged in some way
  • Act as supervisor to a small number of unqualified IWPs
  • Work closely with a wide range of internal and external partners to identify services appropriate to the individual and ensure all parties are engaged throughout the support planning and delivery of services
  • Carry out background research on referrals
  • Give good financial and benefit advice in complex and conflicting situations
  •  Advise customers and carers concerning their rights, the options available to them and how they can be better supported in a wide variety of difficult and challenging circumstances
  • Work within department policy and procedures
  • Have case responsibility for allocated customers, many of which will have complex and challenging functional needs
  • Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy, current HCPC professional registration and current moving and handling training
  • Demonstrable relevant or post qualifying experience
  • An understanding of OT related legislation
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical and psychiatric conditions, orthopaedics and surgical procedures, functional application and ideally specialist therapeutic techniques to treat e.g. cerebral palsy and neurological conditions
  • Knowledge of daily living equipment for disabled people e.g., hoists, bathing equipment, moving and handling equipment, environmental control systems, kitchen equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively when using an interpreter, good non-verbal communication
  • Ability to negotiate, influence and conciliate with a range of people including customers, carers and other agencies
  • Ability to demonstrate equipment, advise on methods to a range of people including customers and informal carers
