About the job:

We are looking for a Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) Practitioner to join Suffolk County Council’s Children and Young People’s Directorate (CYP) to help ensure the safety, well-being and learning of children and young people.

As a Practitioner you will act as a catalyst for positive change for children, young people and their families, offering support and advice to the and to other professionals working with them.

Working as a Practitioner within Suffolk MASH will provide you an opportunity to contribute to decisions that make a real difference to vulnerable children. You will support the functions of the Multi-Agency team, building upon good interagency collaboration ion Suffolk, working with partner agencies such as health, police, Early Help, probation and education.

This role would suit an unqualified or newly qualified social worker with previous experience of working with children.

  • Be responsible for supporting the interpretation and sharing of information that is necessary to safeguard and promote the welfare of the child;
  • Communicate with children, young people and their families. This may include making wellbeing checks within schools, contacting other LA’s to discuss information about children, contacting FSPs to discuss case history, discussing issues of consent with parents and children, CAFCASS checks and CME address checks on system 1.
  • Record, interpret and present information and issues that can impact on the risk or needs of the child;
  • Help to ensure that the voice of the child or vulnerable adult remains central to MASH decision making;
  • Record decisions and make arrangements for low level services to be delivered either by Social Care Services or by an outside agency or body;
  • Under supervision of senior staff, offer advice and guidance to professionals using the MASH Professionals’ Consultation Line;
  • Identify risk and safeguarding concerns and escalate immediately where appropriate;
  • Maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Actively build relationships and networks with other professional groups and services in the locality;
  • Work within service guidelines, statutory guidance and legal frameworks and use Suffolk signs of safety principles, disciplines and tools.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults;
  • Ability to use initiative within boundaries of the role;
  • Knowledge of Signs of Safety and a broad understanding of and skills in solution focused approaches of intervention;
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and guidance appropriate to the role;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure;
  • Ability to use software systems quickly and efficiently;
  • Professional approach to work and a ‘can do’ attitude.

The work is rewarding and fast-paced but can be also stressful at times, so a degree of emotional resilience is required to effectively manage the particular challenges of this working environment.

  • Experience of working to protect children and young people in a multi-agency environment. Relevant formal qualifications;
  • Experience of communication with families and or children that demonstrates an ability to gather information and provide support;
  • It is desirable to have experience working in partnership with safeguarding colleagues.
  • Holiday entitlement of up to 31 days per annum, pro rata (including bank holidays)
