About the role:

This job is working in a busy kitchen assisting the chef, producing a range of foods from breakfasts through to lunch and dinner, including snacks and drinks.

You will be assisting with the deliveries to the kitchen from outside suppliers, ensuring all the produce has arrives and using stock rotation in the cupboards.

You will also be preparing the trollies for easy transportation in and out of the kitchen.  All crockery and cutlery needs to be counted in and out at every meal time.

Most importantly in this job role, you need to maintain awareness of the specific special needs of everyone in the home as there is a range of different dietary needs, for example, vegetarians, Halal, or allergies.  This is well documented in the kitchen.

This is a fast-paced role, and we are looking for someone who is hardworking and reliable.  You will need to be organised and able to prioritise as well as being a supportive team player.

A driver is preferred due to the rural location of the service and the bus times change regularly.

Training, DBS and referencing will need to be completed.

You will have a wide range of various tasks to do around the kitchen along with strict rules that must be kept such as, counting in and out the cutlery and crockery, cleaning schedules to stick to and deliveries to put away while producing a variety of foods.

We are looking for a candidate to have a working knowledge of food hygiene, health and safety, and COSHH.

  • To assist and produce range of food stuff and beverages for the home.
  • To maintain an awareness of the specific needs of individuals e.g., Vegetarians, controlled diets and ethnic minority groups.
  • To operate all kitchen equipment safely and to maintain security of equipment including the counting of the cutlery etc after each meal. Reporting any loss of cutlery, equipment, or faults to the business Support Co-ordinator.
  • Provide care of a high standard that always treats the children and young people with dignity and respect.
  • Assist with the process of the disposal of the kitchen waste keeping records as required by the Business Support Co-ordinator.
  • To work as a team member in a way which supports colleagues within the children’s home having appropriate respect for race, culture and gender issues.
  • Working knowledge of food hygiene and good kitchen practise.
  • Working knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and the provision of a balanced diet.
  • Knowledge of the operation of cleaning equipment, Health and Safety Legislation and COSHH Regulations.
  • Ability to assess risk and proactively take avoidance action toe ensure your own and others safety. Ability to apply related legislation.
  • Ability to work without compromising security and/or safety.
