About the job:

The aim of the school IPC Team is to provide and support all mainstream schools, education settings including residential and home educated countywide. The service will be supporting schools to implement the newly announced mass testing for school staff and secondary school students who are contacts of staff that test positive complying with all Government guidelines. The service and support will be a spectrum of targeted activities focusing on reactive as well as prevention / proactive system wide approach by the IPC Team.

NCC Public health are recruiting a clinically led IPC nursing school team that can provide high levels of reactive support to educational establishments from early years through to sixth form colleges in the immediate period and move towards embedding an effective support system for schools in the medium to long term which will consist of higher levels of proactive work, education and training, and less reactive work as the aim is for staff to feel well equipped and resourced to manage Covid and other communicable diseases and  outbreaks across the various  Education settings.

The role of a school IPC team is to provide:

Advice and guidance on:

  • Face coverings
  • Transport
  • Attendance – self isolating and shielding
  • Workforce – staff who are clinically extremely vulnerable
  • Educational visits
  • Music, dance, drama – performances in the various Local Restriction Tiers
  • Physical activity in schools
  • IPC best practice, including PPE use, hand hygiene, isolation / shielding, environmental cleaning and waste disposal.
  • Risk assessment of a providers’ ability to apply / maintain IPC guidance (environment/PPE/staffing/resident capacity/etc.)
  • Re-assurance and support to ensure school confidence in managing COVID-19 Communicating and promoting positive messages to reduce the spread of covid19.
  • The post holder will be working in an integrated skill mix team that includes school staff, Public health, EHO’s the 0-19 team, and Nursery Nurses.
  • You will be supported in practice by an administration team that provides a single point of contact for the IPC service.

  • First level Registered Nurse with a Specialist Community Public Health Qualification in School Nursing.
  • Non-Medical Prescriber –Not essential.
  • Ability to use critical analysis skills and expert knowledge to ensure that complex issues are dealt with effectively.
  • Understand accountability of own role and that of other team members.
  • Sound knowledge of public health priorities, both local and national and the ability to interpret local data.
  • Knowledgeable in relation to clinical governance and non–medical prescribing.
  • An understanding of individual role in change processes and willingness to participate and contribute to change.
  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding children & young people including knowledge of local safeguarding boards.
