About the job:

On behalf of Peterborough City Council, Opus People Solutions are seeking an Independent Visitor/Consultation Co-ordinator.

The position is to develop, implement, and review/monitor arrangements for engaging and consulting with service users across Social Care and co-ordinate feedback to enable it to influence service delivery, plan and or/deliver a range of participatory, consultation and feedback activities using a variety of mechanisms and be responsible for the recruitment, training and supervision of independent visitors as volunteers to work with Looked After Children.

  • To be responsible for the ongoing selection, recruitment and training of a pool of Independent Visitors.
  • To manage and provide regular supervision to all of the Independent Visitors.
  • To manage the Independent Visitor budget.
  • To evaluate participation or consultation activity and report evidence, conclusions, and recommendations to senior managers.
  • Identify any gaps in consultation, in particular, segments of the community who traditionally have not been reached through communication and consultation exercises, and research and implement ways to overcome barriers and engage those groups.
  • Develop links both internally and externally to improve understanding, co-ordination and collaboration in relation to service user engagement.
  • To ensure all views and feedback is captured on available systems. To contribute to Ofsted inspection regime and provide reports that provides evidence of the effectiveness of the Independent Visitors service and consultation activity as detailed in the Quality Assurance Framework.
  • To produce and maintain up to date procedures for all work processes.
  • To analyse complex situations and record complex information accurately in a timely fashion.
  • To support children young people and family members to effectively feedback their views.
  • To maintain a focus on the Looked after Child, ensuring that the child’s views are taken into account, support individuals through the process and ensure that the child is enabled to participate in the matching process of an Independent Visitor.
  • To effectively liaise with young people, social work teams, foster carers and volunteers both internally and externally.
  • To participate in training opportunities which are presented, in order to develop personal knowledge and skills.
  • To complete all required reports( including monitoring reports).
  • To negotiate and manage out of county Local Authorities access to the IV project for Peterborough.

An understanding of the Children Act 1989, Data Protection Act 1998 and other relevant Legislation and Government Guidance, together with an in depth knowledge of Looked after Children’s legislation and of the Ofsted framework for inspection of Childrens Social Care is essential for this position.

The successful candidate will have a strong customer rights ethos, the ability to work to deadlines and prioritise workload and previous experience of direct work with children and families and hold a recognised Social Work qualification Dip SW, NVQ4 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
