About the job:

We have an exciting  new opportunity for a Junior Finance Assistant/Bookkeeper to join us at Opus and support the Finance team for 2/3 days per week for 3-4 months, on a temporary basis.

As a Finance Assistant/Bookkeeper you will be responsible for supporting the finance department by completing clerical and accounting tasks, maintaining reports, completing bookkeeping; payroll and accounting duties for the company. You will also be responsible for maintaining key relationships with:

  • Management Accountant & Finance Assistants
  • Colleagues in the accounts team, admin and operations teams
  • Customers
  • Suppliers
  • Temporary workers

This role is based in Ipswich, Suffolk and will involve part-working from our Ipswich office (Friars Bridge Road) and part-working from home.

  • Preparing financial documents such as invoices and self-bills
  • Weekly payroll processing
  • Credit Control
  • Completing financial reports on a regular basis and providing information to the finance team
  • Completing daily bank reconciliations
  • Entering financial information into Sage
  • Managing company ledgers
  • Assisting with internal and external audits
  • Verifying balances in account books and rectifying discrepancies
  • Verifying bank deposits
  • Managing day-to-day transactions
  • Entering Ad Hoc invoices
  • Updating financial information on the InTime system
  • Assisting workers, clients and suppliers with a range of queries
  • Creating Bacs files and Faster Payments
  • Reconciling reports to identify margin errors
  • Reporting on debtors and creditors
  • Encoding accounting entries for data processing via journals
  • Previous knowledge and use of Sage preferable
  • Significant experience of managing deadlines and delivering targets
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure by managing own workload and covering colleagues’ work in absence
  • Be organised and able to re-prioritise as the business requires
  • Evidence of having a positive impact on previous organisations
  • Ability to work collaboratively to achieve better outcomes for the business
  • Organised, can prioritise workloads and able to work effectively under pressure
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, mainly Excel
  • Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbally) with the ability to influence and support decision making
  • Be able to deliver complex information clearly and consistently
  • Attention to detail
  • Have the confidence to challenge peers professionally when required
  • Strong team player
