About the job:

We are seeking a Duty Manager for an exciting position at Brentwood Leisure Centre and Community Halls. You will be responsible for the management of colleagues on shift whilst on duty. Supporting with the day to day running of the the centre, ensuring that the facilities are operated safely and in line with Health & Safety legislation and guidance.

As a Duty Manager you will be a hardworking, committed and self motivated individual with a real passion for leisure, delivering exemplary service whilst inspiring other staff members to do the same.

  • To assist in the management of the Leisure facilities.
  • To act in a manner which is professional and exhibits the right skills and behaviours, promoting the Council in a positive manner.
  • To contribute to achieving the Council’s corporate objectives and priorities.
  • To deliver high quality customer focused services which encourage and promote repeat custom, and to maintain memberships.
  • To effectively deal with customer complaints and enquiries and to be able to respond professionally both in person and in writing, in line with the appropriate procedures.
  • To supervise all relevant staff to ensure full compliance with their duties.
  • To be a presence throughout the building to act as a point of contact for customers and staff alike.
  • Conduct regular one-to-one, team meetings and individual performance reviews with direct reports. Identify and respond to staff training needs and comply with relevant policies and procedures such as equal opportunities, diversity, and sickness reporting, discipline and grievance procedures.

Qualifications and Training:

  • Leisure Team Member Level 2 (or equivalent).
  • Leisure Management Level 3 (or equivalent) – Desirable, not essential.
  • NPLQ.
  • IOSH Managing Safely – Desirable, not essential.
  • Pool Plant Operators Certificate – Desirable, not essential.
  • First Aid at Work with Defibrillator.


  • 2 years’ in the leisure industry or 6 months supervisory.
  • Experience in the delivery of customer facing services, programmes and projects to successfully achieve corporate outcomes.
  • Experience of effective budget, people and performance management.
  • Excellent understanding of Health and Safety in a Leisure environment.
  • A positive ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to drive the service forward and implement initiatives.
