About the job:

Opus Northamptonshire on behalf of West Northamptonshire Council is looking for a Caretaker to be based at The Abbey Advice and Resource Centre, Market Square, Daventry NN11 4XG.  This opportunity is for an initial 12 weeks with a possibility to go perm after.

The Abbey Advice and Resource Centre in Daventry town centre offers office space, meeting rooms and a range of support services for both commercial and voluntary sector organisations.

As Caretaker you’ll be responsible for the safe and efficient running of the building to ensure the premises are maintained to a high standard.

Experience in a similar role is preferred, along with an awareness of Health and Safety within the workplace and good customer service skills.  You’ll also be required to undertake general DIY duties and ensure the security of the building and grounds.

This role is for 22.5 hours per week on a 3 shift pattern:

06:30 – 10:30 / 10:30 – 14:30 / 14:30 – 18:30 Mon to Friday
Saturdays 08:30 – 17:30 (1 in 3)


  • Ensuring both buildings are kept clean and professional, setting up meeting rooms and organising refreshments, monitoring visitors & deliveries to the building.
  • Ensuring security of buildings, grounds and other premises including weekly testing of fire, intruder and panic alarms.
  • Operational supervision of morning / evening cleaning staff to ensure a first class support service is provided to the customer.
  • Stock take of cleaning & maintenance inventory.
  • Responding to and providing call-out service across both Lodge Road & The Abbey in the event of fire, intruder or panic alarm activation.
  • Receipt of deliveries and assistance with stores including escorting cash collections.
  • Contractor management – ensuring all contractors are signed in, have the required permit to work and Health & Safety documentation.
  • Responsibility for carrying out weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual testing for any procedures to ensure testing legislative guidance is maintained.
